There is no reason at all for me to love “Hop-Frog” as much as I do, but it’s still one of my favorite Poe stories…

I have a real soft spot for “Hop-Frog,” too. I think it’s because it was one of the first Poe stories I read — though, the first one I heard was “The Tell-Tale Heart,” which was on a record they played for us in our elementary school library. To say it made an impression on me — with the dramatic reading and the sound of a heartbeat getting louder and faster as the story went on — would be an understatement.
